Content note: The Chatelaine
This book was first published in 2018 as Armed in Her Fashion. The revised edition, under the title The Chatelaine, has much less misgendering of one of the characters, but there is still some. This is the darkest of my books, set during a war in Europe in the 14th century, and there is violence and warfare, famine, poverty, plague, misogyny, some body horror regarding people and animals, characters expressing ableist notions about the human body, and references to the deaths of babies and children, and references to religious bigotry and antisemitic violence. There are brief references to sexual assault, although nothing of that nature occurs in the book.
