In 2022, I published two novels and four short stories.

NOVELS

  • The Embroidered Book: A historical fantasy about Marie Antoinette and her sister Charlotte, the queen of Naples. A labour of love begun in 2015. It was lovely to see it out in the world at last, and a thrill to see it hit the Sunday Times bestseller list in the UK, and the Globe and Mail and Toronto Star bestseller lists here in Canada. Edited by Jack Renninson. Published by HarperVoyager UK. Cover design by Andrew Davis.
  • Assassin’s Creed: The Magus Conspiracy. My first tie-in novel, and it has been such a delight to interact with the fans and offer my own story within this universe. Set in the middle of the 19th century, across Europe, in the aftermath of a wave of revolutions. Edited by Gwendolyn Nix and Marc Gascoigne. Published by Aconyte Books. Cover design by Bastien Jez.

SHORT STORIES

  • A Perfect Cup of Tea“, an Audible Original, about 750 words (six minutes). Sept. 5, 2022. A secondary-world tale about a magical tea shop scoring one against imperialism.
  • The Morning House” in Podcastle, July 5, 2022. Audio and text. 4,600 words. Edited by Eleanor R. Wood. A story inspired by my own experience as a caregiver for a family member with dementia.
  • “And in the Arcade, Ego” in Pulp Literature, issue 33, winter 2022. 4,300 words. Edited by Genevieve Wynand. Teenage girls go up against a galactic theocracy in a game of space pinball.
